Debra Hill was an American screenwriter and producer most notably associated with the Halloween film franchise.

Biography

Hill co-wrote the screenplay for the first Halloween film in 1978, taking credit for most of the dialogue between Laurie and her friends, while director John Carpenter wrote most of Loomis's speeches and the scenes of suspense. Hill developed a close bond with Carpenter (whom she had worked with previously on the 1975 film Assault on Precinct 13).

Hill kept the original Michael Myers mask in a shoe box under her bed, and because she was a heavy smoker, the mask yellowed. When the mask was retrieved for the sequel, it had sustained a grimy, grubby appearance that is visible in the film.

Following the success of Halloween, Hill and Carpenter joined forces again for the movie's 1981 sequel, Halloween II, as well as 1982's Halloween III: Season of the Witch. She also collaborated on several unproduced drafts of Halloween 4 before she sold her share of the rights to Moustapha Akkad.

Hill was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2004. Despite this, she continued to work to the end of her life. She succumbed to the illness on March 7th, 2005, in Los Angeles, California, aged 54.
