Ellie Cornell is an American actress and film producer. In the Halloween series, she is known for her role as Rachel Carruthers.

Halloween[]

During production of Halloween 4's rooftop chase, Ellie Cornell was injured by a protruding nail which cut her stomach open as she slid down the roof. After a quick trip to the local hospital and some stitches, she finished the scene with her bandages in place. According to Danielle Harris, "It didn't even faze her."

The film shoot lasted about 41 days and Cornell and Harris were required to be on set for 36 of those.

For Halloween 5, Cornell was not surprised that her character would be killed off, but expressed her disappointment on how early it occurred in the film and the way it was executed. Rachel was written in the screenplay to die within the first act, and was to have scissors shoved down her throat.

Cornell approached both executive producer Moustapha Akkad and director Dominique Othenin-Girard over the issue. While she was not able to change when the death occurred, she was able to change it to a simple stab to the chest.

There was also contention between Cornell and Othenin-Girard over the way Rachel was portrayed in the fifth film. She would elaborate further in a 2014 interview. “Dominque consistently wanted to make my scenes more sexually provocative. ‘Sexy’ he would tell me before each take, ‘more sexy’. I just didn’t think my character was about that. There were sexy characters in the two films I was in, and my character wasn’t one of them.”

Ellie Cornell would later go on to play the role of Detective Janet Wright in the TV series Femme Fatales, which aired on Cinemax from 2011 to 2012.
