Walter Jones was an employee at a gas station in California.
On October 23rd 1982, Walter was reading a newspaper while listening to the news giving a report about the disappearance of Stonehenge. Soon after the Silver Shamrock commercial came on but the power was soon knocked out. Walter checked around the station and was soon attacked by Harry Grimbridge who told Walter that "They're Coming" and then passed out. Walter took the man to the hospital to make sure he was okay.
Once they arrived at the hospital, Walter stayed with the man until Doctor Daniel Challis arrived. Walter explained that he just took him to the hospital and knew nothing else about the man. Once he was cleared, Walter was eager to leave as he did not want to be involved any more then he already was, but he was taught to always help those in need as he never knew when he would be the one to need help. Once Harry woke up again, he told everyone in the room that "They" were going to kill everyone. Walter had enough and left the hospital.
On Halloween night, a few minutes before 9 p.m., Walter just filled up the gas at the station when he was approached by Daniel Challis, the doctor he meet earlier in the month. Doctor Challis told him that he needed to use the phone as it was a matter of life or death. Walter let the doctor inside and, while Challis was on the phone, a car pulled up and three children came in, asking for candy. Walter give the children their treats and let one girl watch the Silver Shamrock commercial. She kept changing the channel whenever the commercial was taken off the air until she found one that kept playing. This commercial was the thing that was life or death to Challis as he yelled on the phone to television stations to stop airing the commercial.
